Biography for mFOLIO Master Eugene Groysman

My name is Eugene Groysman. I have been a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) for 7 years.

I was born in the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine and in 1979, before Glasnost, immigrated with my family to Milwaukee, WI when I was 4 years old. There I grew up, went to school, and formed by world-view and passion for investing, and now my love for helping people make money.

At the impressionable age of 12, I saw the Oliver Stone movie, “Wall Street” with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen and was captivated by the idea of trading stocks. My mom had a retirement account and my dad was a tailor so investing in the stock market was a new and exciting world.

When I graduated from high school in 1994, I received some money and was ready to buy my very first stock. My dad had a client that was the SVP for Smith Barney and he recommended that I look at Microsoft. So I started out with $1,000 each in Kohls (KSS) and Microsoft (MSFT). It turned into a 4-bagger and I was hooked. Thus began my passion for investing.

I got my degree in International Political Theory and History at the University of Wisconsin and this has influenced my approach to investing. I decided that rather than study Finance to learn how the markets worked – I wanted to understand what drove the markets and caused it to react. I wanted to understand about world events, how they interplay, and impact the markets. I like to step out of the traditional norms of investment, and use history as a marker as to what could happen next. I believe that history is often cyclical and therefore, so is the market. For example, the oil crisis of the early 70's, or the real estate boom of the mid 70's - both of these events repeated to some extent, albeit triggered by different factors. I like looking for those kinds of global patterns.

I was a Congressional intern in my last year at school which led me back to Washington DC after graduation to work for lobbyists on Capital Hill – continuing my education about “how things work.” After a few years, I returned to Milwaukee to get back on track with my investment career.

I became licensed, a registered investment advisor and worked for firms such as American Express and US Bancorp in Wealth Management. And more importantly, began my investment track record at Marketocracy in 2003.

When I am not researching investments or economies, I enjoy kickboxing, working out, traveling, good food and being with friends and family.
